Lori.Hopkins@fortthomas.kyschools.us |
This is Lori's seventh year as Highlands Band Director and has taken the marching band to state four times and the concert band to state earlier this year. A Northern Kentucky native and graduate of UK, Lori did the unthinkable and married a Cincinnati Bearcat fan. It has worked out though as they won the Dancing With Our Stars competition in April and are the proud parents of Olivia.

This is Michelle's fifth season working with the Highlands Color Guard. This past year she lead the Winter Guard to a 2nd place finish in the Tri-State Circuit. Casie Cain
Marching Band Color Guard Instructor
Winter Guard Instructor |
Casie has been with us for three years. As part of a USAF project, Casie has been sent from the future to monitor the effects of extremely loud metronomes on garden gnomes. When she's not teaching the guard how to excel at flag twirling and rifle tossing, she spends her time writing one act plays about Wisconsin cheesemen.

Adam Staff
Marching Band Percussion Director |
Lori found Adam playing a 5 gallon bucket on the sidewalk outside of Great American Ball Park on her way to a Red's game last year. Even though he was playing with only one drumstick and a small loaf of French bread, Lori thought he had potential and hired him on the spot. Adam's hobbies include watching people run for their lives and toast. His favorite book is the one that replaced the missing leg on his couch.

Brandon Abdon
Marching Band Assistant Percussion Instructor |
The latest addition to the Highlands faculty has agreed to lend his skills to the marching band. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Science from the Van Nostrand Institue of Higher Learning. A little know fact about Brandon is that while vacationing in London many years ago, he sketched some artwork on a cocktail napkin at a local pub for the acoustic guitar player performing during happy hour. The sketch eventually became the album art for Led Zeppelin's "Houses Of The Holy."

Jesse Gibbs
Marching Band Woodwind/Visual Instructor |
Jesse has been with us for two years and filled in as Lori's classroom substitue while she was on maternity leave last year. He is married to the lovely and talented Michelle Gibbs and is a graduate of NKU's School Of Music. While not helping with the band, Jesse re-enacts World War II battles using ordinary office supplies. Be careful the next time you ask to borrow his liquid paper.

Rob Pederson
Marching Band Brass/Visual Instructor |
This is Rob's fourth year with the marching band and his second as Rob Rederson. Rob attends NKU majoring in student loan deferral with a minor in major studies. In his spare time he likes to write lyrics to whale song and find celebrity images in Grippo's BBQ chips.

 |
Tom Whittle
Marching Band Brass/Visual Instructor |
A 2005 Graduate of Highlands, Tom attends NKU as an undeclared major, but has an interest in studying total protonic reversal as made famous in the movie "Ghostbusters." This is Tom's second year working with the marching band as Tom spent the better part of 2006 riding
wildebeasts and battling giant potato bugs on the campus of Boise State.
